What's New in Image-Pro Plus version 4.5

Extended Depth of Field (EDF)
Multi-plane focus is a feature found in Scope-Pro that acquires a stack of images. It chooses the in-focus parts and creates a new in-focus composite image. With the new EDF feature, users can now take existing multiple z-stack images and combine the images into one composite image. The dialog allows the user to select the images that will serve as the source for the composite image. Since this feature is not tied to Image-Pro's acquisition module, images acquired with other programs and systems can be analyzed. The EDF module also generates a topographic map of the composite image. This map indicates where the individual pixels that populate the composite image originated in the source stack of images. The EDF module will be useful for researchers who acquire images of large objects that cannot be completely examined in one plane when viewed through a microscope.

Color Composite Module
This feature, found in Fluoro-Pro, has been added to the base Image-Pro Plus product. This feature creates and configures color composite images from grayscale source images. Any number of different colors can be used to create the final composite image. However, in practice, if you have a large number of colors, the colors will start to mix when there is too much overlap present, and then they would not be distinguishable. In addition, standard dye sets can be imported to use with this feature (e.g. DAPI, FITC, etc.). This feature will be useful to researchers doing fluorescence applications and co-localization studies.

Large Spectral Filters (LSF)
This feature implements large kernel size (up to 4000 X 4000) filters in Image-Pro. As kernel filters increase in size, their execution speed declines. LSF uses an algorithm that eliminates most of the multiplications and additions that are common with existing filters, which increases the filtering speed significantly.

Co-localization
Biological co-localization is the existence of 2 or more molecule types in the same spatial location. Biological markers, such as antibodies, label proteins and are excited by specific wavelengths of light. Images can then be acquired that allow the user to compare the location of various proteins on the surface, or inside, different cells. Image-Pro Plus generates both graphical and numerical representations of the co-localization of an image. The graphical representations display where the co-localization occurs on the images. The numbers represent the correlation coefficient of the images. The correlation coefficient is a number between 0 and 1, where 0 represents no co-localization at all and 1 represents complete co-localization. This feature will be useful to researchers who use fluorescent probes and other forms of fluorescence microscopy.

Sequence Gallery
This feature allows the user to view a sequence as a single gallery of thumbnail images. The gallery is unique in that it allows the user to interact with the sequence; all standard Image-Pro Plus image processing functions can be applied to the gallery. This latter aspect of the sequence gallery can be used to allow users to preview image analysis operations before applying them to the entire original sequence.

Auditing and File Authenticity Features
These features are designed to assist users who work in regulated environments such as pharmaceutical companies. These new features address many of the concerns raised by our pharmaceutical customers. Combined with a robust internal company compliance system, these features allow Image-Pro Plus users to better address concerns of governmental regulatory agencies.

Audit Trail
This audit trail feature will log application events in Image-Pro Plus 4.5 and record them to a printable text file. The Audit Trail records events in Image-Pro that occur from the start until the end of each session.

Image Signature
This feature complements the Audit trail feature to allow users to create a "fingerprint". This feature lets them determine if image data has changed since the last time a fingerprint was recorded.

File Signature
This feature further complements the Audit Trail and Image Signature features to provide further auditing and control for our FDA regulated customers. The feature creates a "fingerprint" string for a file so that we can tell if any part of it (image or text tag, etc.) has been modified.

Confocal File Format and Other Product File Format Support
Image-Pro can now load files from many popular confocal imaging packages. Confocal microscope users can now use the powerful image processing features of Image-Pro to analyze their images. Image-Pro can now open files from Olympus Fluoview, BIORAD, Leica, Nikon, and Zeiss. Additionally, Image-Pro can now read files from Autoquant's Auto Deblur™ and AutoVisulaize 3D™ and stack files from Universal Imaging Corporation's Metamorph®. Finally, we have added support to import files from Gatan's DigitalMicrograph™ system. This will enhance Image-Pro's capabilities for electron microscopy customers.

PhotoShop Plug-in Support
PhotoShop plug-in support has been improved to eliminate some problems that had been hindering their operation. Image-Pro Plus 4.5 will support Filter and Import plug-ins from PhotoShop. These plug-ins support modifying (filtering) an image, and importing (capturing) an image. We do not support Segmentation (AOI), Export, ColorPicker, or other plug-in types. The plug-in types supported in this release will help extend the image analysis capabilities of Image-Pro Plus.

Apply to Sequence
Users now have the ability to apply more features to an entire sequence of images with one click. Operations on stacks of images are now improved in comparison to previous versions of Image-Pro Plus. New macro calls are also included that allow users to automatically apply functions to sequences in more instances.

Standard Position Information
Standard position information given on the image information dialog now includes Z position information, in addition to X and Y, if known. This feature will be especially valuable to researchers working with image stacks and with confocal images.

SUPPORT

Extend Your Technical Support
When purchased, Image-Pro Plus 4.5 INCLUDES 90 days of Technical Support! The 90 days starts at the date of your Image-Pro Plus purchase (original copy or upgrade). You may extend this period to one year from the date of purchase by ordering our Technical Support Extension for a discounted price at the time of your Image-Pro Plus purchase.
