The Nikon Coolpix digital camera is becoming the standard for which all other manufacturers strive. It boasts over a four (4) megapixel resolution with auto focus, built-in flash, 4x optical and 4x digital zoom equaling 16x total magnification. The camera has a built-in voice memo for recording up to 20 seconds of audio and includes a 1.8" color LCD for a crisp, clear display. White balance bracketing allows the user to obtain the perfect color reproduction of stained samples. The included software (NikonView 5) allows easy editing, storage, retrieval, printing and slide show creation. seconds. And with our easy installation guide, you will be taking digital
pictures in minutes after installation. Also contained in this kit is an
extra 128 Mb Compact Flash Card that will store up to fifty (50) images
(depending on the quality you select). Included is a USB Compact Flash
Card Reader that will give you the freedom of transferring your images to
your computer at high speed without removing the camera from the
microscope. To facilitate focusing or displaying images to large groups,
we’ve included a 13" color video monitor with this kit.
This digital camera kit addresses the three concerns about digital photography in Pathology – cost, quality and ease-of-use. By combining Nikon’s CoolPix point-and-shoot camera with our distortion-free microscope mount, camera accessories and 13” color monitor to aid in focusing and facilitate group conferencing, the CoolPix Kit provides a film quality, easy to use digital camera for under $2,400.00. Low-cost machine-shop camera-to-microscope adapters present a problem because they introduce vignetting (shading around the edges of the image) and spherical aberrations (image blurring around the outer edges) onto the image. Our adapter includes the necessary optics to flatten the image field, which reduces spherical aberration, yet allows a wide range of the camera’s zoom, therefore providing a greater field of view without vignetting. By including an A/C adapter, an extra 128 Mb Compact Flash card, a USB Compact Flash card reader, 13” color monitor and the “Easy Set-up Guide”, a Pathologist is able to take images minutes after receiving the CoolPix Kit.
